Willacy County Commissioners Court met on July 2nd to vote on an IGSA to reopen its notorious private detention center. You can read more about the prison, known in the past as “tent city” and RITMO, or Raymondville’s GITMO, in this Texas Observer article.
ICE and Willacy County are trying to do this deal in secrecy, without public input or having the deal scrutinized.
On Friday, July 6, 2018, at 2:45 p.m. help us pack the Willacy County Commissioners Court (576 W Main Ave #145, Raymondville, TX 78580) and make your voice be heard.

The decision to have a closed meeting came after the county secretary informed us that they are being flooded with calls against the reopening of RITMO. We need you to help us keep the pressure on this issue. We cannot allow for people’s lives to be decided behind a closed door vote!! We cannot stand idle as the Willacy County Commissioners Court try to provide space for Trump to expand his cruel mass deportation enforcement machine in our backyard!!
Please call and email the Willacy County Commissioners Court, telling them to stop the secrecy and postpone this vote until a regularly scheduled County Commissioners Court meeting!
